This policy explains what personal information the LikeMinded film website (likemindedfilm.com) collects, why we collect it, who else can see it, and what you can do about it. We are a self-funded independent film based in New Zealand, and we handle personal information under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean LikeMinded, the film by Hunter Paull and David McMillan. If you have any question about this policy or about your information, email hunter@huntcinema.com.
When you donate, you enter an email address and your payment details. Payment details are entered directly into a secure form provided by Stripe and are sent straight to Stripe — they never pass through or get stored on our server. We ask Stripe to email your receipt to the address you give.
Our server creates the payment record with Stripe (the amount and currency) and receives back only whether the payment succeeded. Stripe holds the full transaction record as an independent processor under its own privacy policy, and may collect device and fraud-prevention information when the payment form loads. Stripe stores payment records for as long as its own legal and financial obligations require, and we keep access to donation records for seven years to meet New Zealand tax and financial record-keeping requirements.
So we can show an approximate amount in your local currency, your browser asks ipapi.co which country you are in. This request goes directly from your device to that service and includes your IP address; we do not receive or store the result. Exchange rates come from frankfurter.dev, which receives no information about you. The conversion is a display estimate only — every donation is charged in New Zealand dollars.
If you submit the "host a premiere" form, we collect the name, email address, city or region, venue and message you enter. These are stored in a private Google spreadsheet (via Google Workspace) and used only to reply to you and organise screenings. We keep enquiries while the film is touring and delete them once they are no longer needed.
If you scan a LikeMinded QR code to view exclusive content, we set a
cookie called lm_device containing a random ID. That ID is
not linked to your name, email or any other detail about you — it exists
so the same phone gets its own screening link back if the page reloads,
rather than using up someone else's. Alongside it we store the time you
claimed the link and the IP address the request came from, so we can
enforce a limit on how many links each screening can hand out and stop
one person draining them all. Viewing links expire after a short window
and can only be opened once. We delete screening records after each
screening season.
Our site runs on Railway. Like any web host, it processes standard technical information — IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time — to deliver pages and keep the site secure and available. We do not use this information to build a profile of you.
We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies of our own. The
only cookie we set is lm_device, described above; it is
strictly necessary for the screening-link system, cannot be read by
scripts in your browser, and lasts up to 400 days unless you clear it.
You can delete it at any time in your browser settings — doing so only
means a new screening link would be treated as a new device.
Third parties on the site may set their own cookies:
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers named above — Stripe, Google and Railway — which process it on our behalf or as independent controllers of their own services, and only to the extent needed to run the site. Some of these providers store information overseas, including in the United States, under their own privacy commitments. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect our rights or someone's safety.
The site is served over HTTPS. Payment details go directly to Stripe and are never stored by us. Screening tokens are long random values, checked on the server, single-use and time-limited, and the content they unlock is never publicly accessible. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep the amount of personal information we hold as small as we practically can.
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it where we have no ongoing need or legal obligation to keep it. Email hunter@huntcinema.com and we will respond within 20 working days. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz. If you are in the UK or European Economic Area, you also have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection under the UK/EU GDPR — the same email address reaches us.
This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the site.
